Jimi Hendrix played London’s Royal Albert Hall on three occasions at between 1967 and 1969-Firstly sharing the bill with likes of (The) Pink Floyd, The Amen Corner, The Nice and The Move.

When he returned to the venue in February 1969, it was to headline two sold-out nights supported by The Soft Machine.
At the time, tensions had been growing between the band and their management for several months, but these appeared to be put aside for these two concerts. The Royal Albert Hall shows would be remembered as some of The Experience’s best and most successful late performances, and would be their final in the UK.
The event was filmed but due to legal wrangles, it was never been officially released. However, Vimeo user Kurt Max has uploaded Hendrix’s set (from the Feb 24th show) to his channel, which you can see in the video clips below.

I don’t know where to reply… But I just want to say I really love Jimi Hendrix. This Video is great for the sound. And there is some great footage of other shows and some pictures, but I honestly would rather just watch Jimi stand there and play the guitar. It’s awesome to hear him riffing and dive bombing, but when I watch him play it’s even better. It doesn’;t even look like he’s actually playing the thing when I see what he looks like compared to what I hear… It’s surreal. But, this is still a good video. I have never seen it so it’s like brand new for me.

Great seeing Jimi jam with some of the guys from Traffic. Dave Mason, Chris Wood, and Stevie Winwood all played on separate songs for “Electric Ladyland”.

I wonder why the film has never been released officially…I mean, Janie needs new shoes…..she will sue anybody who even mentions the name “Jimi Hendrix”.

To hear what this iconic concert would sound like IF the Audio Master was ever allowed to be used for proper releases – this concert called “the most bootlegged show ever” – just look in your collection for ‘In the West’ (LP ONLY) – Voodoo Child, Little Wing….and the Concerts CD/LP – Stone Free, Bleeding Heart.
That 4-CD set from 2000 and then rereleased has the two tracks from In the West.
Glorious playing a mere mortal cannot imagine Voodoo Child played better.

Never realised this was supposed to be “rare” had it on video for over 20 years. Just never uploaded it. Might start uploading recordings to Vimeo because YouTube just hits me with legal stuff when I upload there, even when I do not mention the artist by name or in tags etc.

Yes, however, it is crucial to point out that THIS version (linked to this article) is using a significant video and audio source upgrade (s well as dozens of hours spent remastering the sound and picture quality). Your 20 year old version is an entirely different ‘Experience’. “Bleeding Heart” from this gig is my favourite Jimi track of all time. At one point in this movie, Noel Redding is in the audience, watching himself play bass on stage (LSD is a powerful drug…). Check out that uniformed Commissionaire in the aisle, compare and contrast with the uninhibited dancing elsewhere…
