Jimi Hendrix played London’s Royal Albert Hall on three occasions at between 1967 and 1969-Firstly sharing the bill with likes of (The) Pink Floyd, The Amen Corner, The Nice and The Move.

When he returned to the venue in February 1969, it was to headline two sold-out nights supported by The Soft Machine.
At the time, tensions had been growing between the band and their management for several months, but these appeared to be put aside for these two concerts. The Royal Albert Hall shows would be remembered as some of The Experience’s best and most successful late performances, and would be their final in the UK.
The event was filmed but due to legal wrangles, it was never been officially released. However, Vimeo user Kurt Max has uploaded Hendrix’s set (from the Feb 24th show) to his channel, which you can see in the video clips below.

That’s Charlie Webber. Among other things, as a child he and his family would hang out at Keith Richards French flat when they recorded Exile on Main Street.

That is Charlie Webber. Very interesting and nice guy. His parents were well connected with the hip rock scene etc.

Sonically great,but that annoying film makers habit of way too little live footage showing him actually playing the guitar!

Usually when that happens its because they are missing parts of the actually live video so he probably just mixed in as a filler. Its great nonetheless.

As the other person already said. The added stuff was used to fill in missing gaps or replace bad shots of the audience. NO scenes of the band performing were covered over!

I added the slo-motion and still shots to fill in missing gaps and preserve continuity of the performance. NO scenes of the band performing were covered over! All band footage was used, kept and included. PS The video clip has all the background notes and tech info if you go to the clip. K. Max

All the sound checks & rehearsals were filmed etc lot of film thrown wasted,every time I watch the film I get so f***ing annoyed with the editing, it was put in the hands of art students who must have been stoned and blind folded .

actually there is a GREAT Red House performance – I have seen the whole thing in a theater setting a number of times. Have not seen this clip yet. I have worked with the film’s owner/producer and it’s a real treasure for sure.

This footage isnt really “rare”. We transfered the original film reels like 10 years ago and circulated them amongst collectors, then some douche bootlegged it. Now we sit on the other masters until the label convinces us to do so.

If it’s never been officially released than it’s rare. Also, this ‘version’ is way way way different than any of the crappy bootleg DVDs and VHS that have been out there since the early 1980s (when I first got it on VHS). 😉

My band supported them in Feb 67. He was a genius and a gentleman. A great bluesman who knew from where he came, and where he was going. He needed to cover Dylan’s catalogue, since there is so much of Dylan’s spirit in everything he played.

We can hear why Miles Davis wanted to do a session w Hendrix and Ginger Baker. A ‘what if only’ moment. That said, thanks mucho for doing this -great to hear an early version of “Hear My Train A’Comin” before it was formally titled as such!

This is awesome. I’ve never seen so many stills so well interspersed. I had the opportunity to attend one of his concerts. You took me back there as I watched. After a lifetime of playing with and listening to so many brilliant guitar players, he remains as genuine and real to me as he was when I saw him, maybe more so.
I would like to see your critic’s videos and compare them. I suppose they would have to make them first….

Thank you so much Mick. Of course, I would have preferred all footage of the band actually playing but the raw footage was riddled with missing sections not showing the band playing. I worked very hard to pick and add stills and slow motion scenes that hopefully continued the cool vibe of the performances. Cheers chum!!! ”

Congratulations on a job well-done, K. Max! Your meticulous efforts here have resulted in a significant upgrade for this concert. As someone who spends hours on Lightroom (Photoshop), I can appreciate the technical task that you took on. I’m also a Hendrix historian. It is good to see such a high (ahem) quality performance shown on decent film. The more such upgrades of Hendrix stock the better, so young people can see what the fuss was all about. And…..eat yer heart out Janine, ha ha ha!! I am done. The end.

This is really great, thank you! Frustrating as it is I too was bummed when the montages started but I understand and you did a fantastic job with those too. Now knowing that they were necessary I will enjoy them without thinking “why, why!?” One thing I am wondering…”The Jimi Hendrix Concerts” album had a version of “Stone Free” from this date. I assume there was no available footage. Serious bummer! That is one of my favorite pieces of music period. Anyway, thanks again, this is amazing and much appreciated!

Thanks dude for posting this!!!…Really Really great of you!!!!….Loved hearing this!!! …so much more than watching it…..( the editing, so amateurish, too many unrelated and crappy images in the worst places and with all the cameras you’d think they get better coverage of everyone…almost as if they were 14 year olds who didn’t know what they were doing)..
